Student Pastor Job Description and Duties
Principle Functions:
The Pastor of Students will provide staff support to shepherd and equip the saints of AbbevilleFirstBaptistChurch to launch out as Kingdom citizens to shine in a dark world.He will have the primary responsibility to develop, administering, and promoting an effective and holistic student ministry that will evangelize, develop and equip students in the church and community to become committed disciples of Jesus Christ.This will include the recruiting and training of lay leaders, as well as working with parents and others in order to insure a successful student ministry.The age focus for this student ministry will be those from nursery through college.He will be under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor, with guidance as needed from the Personnel Committee.
Personal Responsibilities:
Is responsible to the Senior Pastor who will supervise, evaluate along with the personnel committee
Evidence of a sincere and growing faith in Jesus Christ.Meeting the requirements of an elder found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Humility, the ability to be taught, loyalty and personal holiness are of the utmost importance.
Must be God called to work in the area of student ministry
Maintain proper priorities in the home and be the spiritual leader to the family (if married).
Commitment to the overall mission, vision, and values of FirstBaptistChurch.
A thorough theological understanding of how to grow people to maturity in Christ.
Ability to minister to and lead a diverse group of adult volunteers with wisdom and enthusiasm.
Ability to attract, invite and empower volunteers to carry out the ministry.
Ability to coordinate several ministry projects simultaneously.
Be committed in stewardship giving to FirstBaptistChurch through tithes and offerings.
Be committed to personal evangelism and endeavor to routinely share the Gospel and testimony with those in the community.
Meet weekly with church staff to coordinate ministry plan.
Keep regular office hours and contact information on how to be reached when not in office.
Must be able to respond to changing needs throughout the daily and weekly schedule.
Publicize opportunities and events through newsletter articles, bulletin announcements and other means.
Educational Requirements: Attempting Bachelors degree or earned Bachelors degree or higher
Specific Responsibilities:
Will provide overall leadership for Student ministry development at FirstBaptistChurch.
Work to develop and equip adult leadership and parents to help minister to students in order to build relationships, strengthen self esteem, and encourage the students to become devoted Disciples of Christ.
Provide focused Bible study programs that are intentionally designed to meet the discipleship needs of the student.This would include planning, logistics, and preparation of curriculum and other recourses needed for activities.
Oversee the program and personnel in the child care ministry (nursery).
Coordinate with Music Minister in order to insure integration of the students and music ministries.
Lead ministry leaders in planning and coordinating appropriate activities and annual trips that will provide opportunities for the students to enjoy and grow in their relationship with the Lord.(Annual trips may include: snow skiing, mission trips, Camps at Ridgecrest, etc.)
Coordinate any fund raising activities to support student activities not covered by the Church budget. .
Keep informed on methods, materials, and procedures for developing and maintaining a successful student ministry (twitter, face book, website, newsletter, etc.). This will include attending appropriate conferences and reading student ministry materials.
Be proficient with computer.
Assist in pastoral ministries (visitation, crisis ministry, etc.), especially as it relates to students and their immediate families.
Serve as Chairman of the Youth Committee and as a member of the Church Council.
Provide necessary training opportunities throughout the year for the various lay teachers in the church.
To develop a systematic program of home visitation to students and parents to increase and solicit participation in activities and programs. These visitations will be made to current church member families and students, visitors, and prospects. To visit with students when they are in hospital or in other important events in their lives. Outreach to new students through home calls and school contacts (school lunch time / sport activities / after school activities).
Work with appropriate committees and individuals to prepare an annual budget proposal for the programs under his supervision.Participate in all Church planning sessions.
Develop a council for each of the 5 areas of responsibility: nursery-preschool, grade school, middle school, high school and college.
Perform other related duties assigned by the Senior Pastor as needed.
Time Commitment:
This is a full time ministry position requiring flexible hours and commitment of time, including emergency calls and night meetings.
Compensation and Benefits:
1.The salary and allowances for the Pastor of Students will be determined by the annual budget, which is approved by the church.
2.After having served for six (6) months, the Pastor of Students will be given two weeks of paid vacation each calendar year, not cumulative.After having served for thirty-six (36) months, he shall be entitled to three weeks each calendar year, not cumulative, with pay.He will receive one additional day per year after four (4) years for maximum of (4) weeks after ten (10) years.
3.The Pastor of Students shall have the privilege of participating in not more than two revivals a year away from this church.The revivals must be at least four (4) weeks apart.
4.The church shall provide time and money for the Pastor of Students to attend the South Carolina Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention.These, along with other conferences that pertain to his focal ministry area, will be paid up to the allotted budget amount.Proper documentation must be provided in order to receive reimbursement.
5.The Pastor of Students will be provided with a reimbursable travel allowance.This will be utilized for travel related to ministry duties and will be reimbursed at the current rate as determined by the IRS.Documentation must be presented in order for reimbursement to occur.
6.The Pastor of Students shall have two days each week off, the days to be determined by him and approved by the Pastor.
7.The church office will be closed for the following holidays:New Year’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day (2 days), and Christmas (2 days).
8.If a holiday falls on a weekend or scheduled day off, the day before or the day after may be taken.
9.The church will pay the moving expenses for the initial move to Abbeville.
10.No staff member will have provisions in a job description that will be in conflict with any of the above.
